Dong Seoul @ Country Garden

Country Garden - that's where Mad Girls decided to explore to! You can enjoy the view of the Straits of Johor while enjoying the cool breeze at the same time (especially when it's at night, the breeze is AMAAAZING!). However, as construction works are still going on, please be extra careful when you are strolling there. The bonus about the Dong Seoul located at Danga Bay is that, after having a heavy meal, we could take a stroll at the nearby beach. And after every heavy meal, that is definitely something one should do.

Dong Seoul is one of the newly opened restaurants at Country Garden. It is renowned for its grilled meat. However, this time, we decided to try their steamboat. It is spicy and surely appetizing. It suits our preference. To those who loves spicy food like us, we think you will like this too. As for the rice cake, it is super delicious. You can choose the level of spiciness for the rice cake so everyone will be able to enjoy it. After meal, they will serve you a cup of sweet drink. As for drinks, a jug of tea will be served - and it is bottomless *cheapo in self screams*

The ambience is cozy and there are ample seats. It is suitable for a family outing. While waiting for your food, you can enjoy watching Korean drama so you will not feel bored. If it is inconvenient for you to go to Country Garden, you may choose to go their other branches which are located at Austin Height and Sutera Mall.

Palsaik Korean BBQ

Well.. Korean food! You could say that Mad Girls are definitely adventurous. We exposed ourselves to Korean food! We did so as we heard that Palsaik Korean BBQ is well-known for their 8-Color Pork Barbecue. And who can resist that temptation?! Of course our tummies had to give it a try!

Famous 8 different flavors of pork belly
Kimchi & Tauge
Seafood Soup
Grilling Moments

Yup, we had to grill all the kimchi and tauge on our own. But.. it's not as bad as it sounds. That's where the fun actually kicks in! We could grill it to our own satisfaction and till however soft and tender we wanted them to be.

Spicy Seafood Stew

Ohhhh, trust us! It is JUST as spicy as it looks in the photo! But the taste of it, too yummy!

Grilling Moments
Vegetables

For two of us, it was our first time trying Korean food. Going to Palsaik Korean BBQ was ultimately the right choice as the standards of the food did not disappoint us at all. However, as it was packed with many customers, the service of the food was a little slow and we had to wait quite a bit for our food to arrive.

We believe that if you were to go to the restaurant during the non-peak timing, the entire meal will be an extremely pleasant one with the quick service. We must say that the overall rating of the restaurant was not too bad though!

Coffee Valley

This time, Mad Girls ventured all the way to Sutera Mall. Sutera Utama area is like a food paradise to us. I believe it is a famous food hunting area for others too. Basically, you can get all kinds of cuisine you want there. After a fulfilling meal, you can have a walk in the mall or hunt for desserts.

Coffee Valley is renowned for its waffles and brunch. which the Mad Girls' favourite. We find it very hard to say 'NO' to waffles and brunch. Since their signature dishes are our favourites, we decided to go there and have a try.

The waffles served by them tastes heavenly! It is so fluffy! The crust is crispy and soft on the inside. It is not too sweet, and is even served with maple syrup. There are 6 different toppings to choose from. The price is considered affordable, RM 10.50 for per set of waffles.

The environment is considered cozy for us. However, the seats in the cafe is insufficient when there is a crowd. It will not be so comfortable to sit outside during a scorching day. Well, one may consider to visit their main branch located at Jalan Trus.

Creamery Boutique Ice Cream

There's this new hype in town, which is to enjoy a pan of ice cream after a long day at work or school. This innovative method of serving ice cream and cookies has drawn many around Johor Bahru, to flock to this quaint shop named Creamery Boutique Ice Cream located at Taman Mount Austin.

Not knowing what the hype is about, we Mad Girls decided to give it a go!

The layout of the shop is very much a delight, simple and with a twist of hipster-styled cafes, brightly lit. It is definitely a great place to sit and catch up for friends and families.

We also like how they serve us, regardless of how many pans of ice cream you order, they would give you enough spoons for your clique so no one has to worry about sharing spoons if you order one set less!

The base (brownies, lava cake, etc) are a little too sweet for our palate, but would definitely be instantly loved by people with sweet tooth. For people who hate human congestion, we do not encourage you to go during weekends for the wait is long and there will be hardly any seats. Our secret tip is to go during weekdays, especially during the dinner hours from 7 to 8pm - then you'll have the whole place almost to yourself!

Grill Bar Steakhouse

We Mad Girls craved for western food. Hearing many others giving good reviews about this restaurant, we decided to make our way over to see if the food is really as good as others have made it out to be. And true enough, we personally feel that out of the many western restaurants in Johor Bahru, Grill Bar is definitely beyond our expectations.

From the outside, Grill Bar looks like any other restaurants. However, when you enter the restaurant, you'll feel like you're in a totally different place. The owners designed it in such a way that it is biker-themed which has a very vintage feel to it.

Next, we decided to try out their main course straight up as our tummies were grumbling! We had a hard time deciding what to eat as there was a wide variety of food to select from! We ended up with the beef spaghetti and mushroom chicken as our main course meals. There was absolutely NO regrets in our selection of food as the chicken was sooo tender and it was proportionately cooked with the mushroom. The taste was just, SUPERB. On the other hand, the beef spaghetti was extremely delicious and the beef, like the chicken, was so tender.

Both the portions of food may not look that much for one person to eat, but it definitely kept us full.

Time for desserts! The chocolate lava cake was just too good to be true. It was warm, and the chocolate was oozing out. The chocolate itself wasn't too sweet; it was JUST nice. THIS was the perfect way to end our meal!

We would go back again to try out their other dishes as we didn't manage to get enough of their food. It was just too yummy. Apart from that, we must point out on the service we got from their staff. They were extremely friendly and they would politely ask us how the food was and if we enjoyed ourselves. They would also ensure that we had everything that we needed all the time. Grill Bar, definitely a thumbs up to their food and also to the service of their staff!

Atlas Coffee Embassy

Calling brunch lovers!!!

If you're craving for brunch (breakfast plus lunch) meals regardless in the morning, afternoon, evening or night, Atlas Coffee Embassy is definitely your choice. One of the reasons why we love this place so much is because they serve all-day brunch. Does it make sense? Of course it does! Western breakfast food is loved by many in Malaysia, and is deemed luxurious especially when compared to our normal fare like fried bee hoon or nasi lemak.

The design of this cafe is simple and sweet, we can tell that the owner had put in a lot of effort into creating a comfortable ambiance to make customers feel at home.

Spacious seating spaces for large groups

Simple design

Perfect for dull and rainy days which calls for cafe-camping and hot coffee.
We also love how they serve us sky juice so no one gets thirsty even without ordering drinks. But really, do try their coffee as it is specially brewed by an award winning barista.

Another interesting point about this cafe's all-day brunch is that you get to pick what you like, and what you want to see on that amazing plate of breakfast delights. They offer as many as 14 choices to choose. They have this little order chit where customers get to tick their options, whether they want 3, 5 or 7 items.
Of course, prices differ accordingly. (3 items at RM 15.90, 5 items at RM 18.90 and 7 items at RM 21.90)

Just tick on what you want to appear on your brunch plate with a whiteboard marker.

Chicken sandwich

8 items! Just add RM 3 for every additional pick.

5 items @ RM 18.90
Pork sausage, bacon, ham, baked potatoes and scrambled eggs.
Note how the toast and salad are given as sides to the order. All selected in above picture are labelled must try by us!

Brunch galore
Besides brunch, the Nutella toast is a must try, because it is just fantabulous! From all aspects of presentation and taste, Atlas presents the best in this simple sounding dish. We're pretty sure that anyone with a sweet tooth like us will definitely love this. It might look too sweet, but trust us, you'll be asking for more after each bite. Between the layers of toast, generous amounts of Nutella is slapped on it, topped with strawberries, blueberries and cream - which makes it perfect. And when we say perfect, we mean it.

Business card

This place is definitely going to be Mad Girls' frequent haunt, because of the delicious food and cozy environment - even you guys are going to find it hard to say 'no' to this lovely place! Nothing beats good food and great company!

P/s: No service tax or GST here! What you see is what you pay! What a delight!
